Build a polyurea business in Canada

Polyurea opens doors to municipal, industrial, agricultural and commercial work across the country. Whether you are starting out or adding a service to your trade, we can help you get equipped, trained and supplied.

Why polyurea

One spray rig, a lot of markets

Few trades let a small crew move between truck beds, factory floors, tanks and municipal infrastructure. Polyurea does.

Many markets, one skill set

Truck bed liners, garage and industrial floors, roofs, tanks, containment, manholes and flood walls all use the same core equipment and know-how.

Fast turnarounds

Polyurea gels in seconds and returns to service quickly, so jobs wrap up faster and customers lose less downtime.

Take it to the job

Mobile spray rigs put a complete, heated plural-component system in a trailer or truck, ready for remote and rural sites.

A natural add-on

Spray foam, concrete, roofing and painting contractors can add polyurea to the services they already sell.

Infrastructure demand

Aging municipal assets and more extreme weather are pushing owners toward durable, fast-cure protective coatings.

Built for Canada

Indoor and industrial work helps keep crews busy outside the main construction season.

What it takes

What you need to get started

  • Spray equipment. A heated, high-pressure plural-component proportioner, heated hose and spray gun, plus power and air. Most applicators run it from a trailer or truck rig.
  • Training. Surface preparation, mixing and application, equipment care, and safe handling of isocyanates with the right PPE and respiratory protection.
  • Material supply. Dependable access to polyurea systems, primers and topcoats, with technical support when a job gets tricky.
  • Business basics. Registration, insurance, workers’ compensation coverage and a written safety program for your province.

FAQ

Becoming an applicator

Do I need coatings experience?

No. Many applicators come from other trades or start fresh. Hands-on training covers the equipment, surface preparation, application and safety.

How much does it cost to get started?

Most of the start-up cost is equipment. A complete mobile rig is the biggest investment, and the right size depends on the markets you want to serve. We can walk you through the options.

What kind of work can I do?

Common markets include truck bed liners, garage and industrial floors, roofs, tanks and cisterns, secondary containment, manholes and wastewater structures, and flood control infrastructure.

Where can I get trained?

Hands-on polyurea applicator training is available through Coatings Academy and ArmorThane.

What permits or registrations do I need?

It varies by province and municipality. Expect business registration, liability insurance, workers’ compensation coverage and safety training for working with isocyanates. Our regulations guide is a good place to start.
